Identifying mistakes in a large code fragment is like searching for a needle in a hay stack. Traditional text editors fail to offer special features, to make code writing easier. EditBone looks and feels like a simple text editor, but it provides a series of useful features, like syntax highlighting, for numerous languages, a file comparison function, unicode character map and more.

The application is free and open source. Instead of going through an installation process, you just need to extract EditBone's executable form an archive and run it. The extracted application takes up only 7.24 MB of disk space and it has an insignificant impact on your computer's performance.

You may create or open several documents on different tabs, on the same user interface. The software allows you to toggle line numbers, text wrapping, special characters and you can record and save macros as well. The most important feature is EditBone's support for over 50 programming languages. HTML, PHP, Java, Pascal, Perl, Python or LEGO LDraw files are just a few examples.

Once you create or open a document, you may select a programming language in a drop menu, located in the upper right corner of the interface. As you type your code, the application will highlight syntaxes for the selected language. You can view the current document on your default web browser, just by clicking an option on a toolbar.

EditBone's file comparing feature can help you spot subtle differences between large code fragments. The contents of the loaded files are displayed side by side. Differing lines are highlighted, so you can spot them faster and you can copy the code from a selected line to its corresponding line, with a single click.

Pros

EditBone provides syntax highlighting features for a huge number of programming languages. You can record macros, view your document on a web browser and more. The software also allows you to compare files and it makes it quite easy to spot differences and modify them.

Cons

None I could think of. If your work involves typing code all day long, you can make your work faster and easier with EditBone.
